Aston Hall was built for Sir Thomas Holte in the early part of the seventeenth century to display his wealth and prestige. He chose to have his new home put up on a ridge overlooking the church and the village of Aston. The land around was made into a deer park, and fine avenues of trees were planted leading up to the house. It was opened as museum by Queen Victoria in 1858. It has remained a museum ever since. |
