The coat of arms of Edward III. He quartered the English lions with the French fleur-de-lis.

Edward claimed the French throne through his mother, Isabella of France (the she-wolf of France as she was known at the time!).

He took his knights to fight the French for what he claimed were his rightful lands.

This was the hey-day of the fighting knight, and the skilled longbow man. Together they won some glorious victories over the French such as those at Crecy and Poitiers.
