This reconstruction picture of Weoley Castle has been devised by the artist Brian Byron using:-

  • photographs of the present ruins
  • ground plans
  • a description of the castle written in 1424
  • advice from David Symons, Curator with Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery, and Mike Hodder the City Archaeologist
  • his own extensive knowledge and expertise in castle reconstruction drawings

There is a lot we don't know about Weoley Castle. The picture above is a 'best guess' as to how it could have looked.

Features like the well are easily identified. Ovens and hearths are evidence of bakehouse and kitchen.

But some buildings are less easy to name hence the question mark by the building labelled guesthouse or stables.

There was certainly an outer bailey beyond the drawbridge, but it is not clear how (or if) the walls joined the current castle ruins.
