Stuart Inventions Work improving lens for spectacles led to the invention of the microscope. Early microscopes did not have much power of magnification and were a bit fuzzy. There was great interest in science after the restoration of Charles II to the throne. The king was a keen scientist and founded the Royal Society to exchange and discuss ideas and knowledge. But interest in science was either a hobby for the rich or a scientis had to find himself a rich patron (someone who would pay for him to experiment).
