The Georgians Religion The eighteenth century was a great period for discussion and debate about the philosophy of life and man's beliefs. In 1729 group of Oxford students formed their own methodical manner of worship and way of conducting their lives. John Wesley and his brother Charles were of this group and they founded Methodism. The spiritual and moral revolution they brought about in poorer sections of society, in late Georgian times, helped divert political revolution. Methodists cared about the poor and needy, and there was a revival of a religious fervour amongst the lower classes which had not been seen since Medieval times.
