The Normans began to use the bow and arrow in battle rather than just as a weapon for hunting.

It was the final shower of arrows sent up by the Norman archers, as evening approached, that did for the Saxons at the Battle of Hastings.

The Norman cavalry charging in, on the great destrier war horses they brought with them, finished them off.

The knight on the horse is dressed for a 'Crusade', to free the Christian Holy places in Jerusalem.

Knights returning from such trips to the middle east brought back new ideas in fighting techniques and castle building, and, later on, gunpowder!
