Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery offers a variety of training sessions.
- Making the most of your school’s visit to Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
This FREE session provides:
- A welcome tour of BMAG Learning Zone
- Descriptions and demonstrations of the history sessions
- Ideas for pre and post visit activities.
- An introduction to the schools loans service
- Practical activities for using artefacts in the classroom
- An opportunity to handle historical artefacts
It is recommended that all teachers bringing students on visits to the
Museum for a history session attend this training.
This training session takes place at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery
between 4.30pm – 6.00pm on the following dates
Tuesday 5th July 2011
Tuesday 13th September 2011
Tuesday 8th November 2011
Alternatively you can book this session for your whole school for £60.00
after 4pm Monday-Friday, or £75.00 before 4pm Monday-Friday.

Hands on Learning
- An introduction to the resources available
- Information about how to access them
- Best practice guidance for handling artefacts
- An opportunity to handle historical artefacts
- Hints and tips for using artefacts in the classroom
This session is FREE with all subscriptions to the Schools Loans Service,
or can be booked for a whole school session for £60.00 after 4pm, or£ 75.00 before 4pm Monday-Friday.
- Classical Culture Trail
Thursday October 6. 1.30 - 3.45
The gallery trail explores paintings and artefacts inspired by classical
culture,
myth and legend. The session is designed to supplement and enhance visits
involving a Greek handling session.
£50 for half-day course (Specialist CPD)
- Exploring Portraiture
Thursday November 10. 1.30 - 3.45
Looks at the role and functions of portraiture from the Renaissance to the
present day. Includes suggestions for practical work and further
exploration of portraits in the classroom.

be booked to take place either at Birmingham
Museum & Art Gallery or at your school.
