Dutch 17th century art 17th century Dutch artist were largely patronised by the bourgeoisie, whose taste was for paintings of themselves, their homes and possessions, their towns and countryside. Landscapes are not idealised in the classical style, but tend towards realism.

Subjects include:
Genre; Domestic interiors; Seascapes; Landscapes; Portraiture; Still-life
Exhibits often include pictures by:
Van de Velde; Rubens; David Teniers; Frans Hals and Jacob Ruisdael.

English 17th century art:
English portraiture was dominated by Sir Peter Lely at this time; two Lely portraits are often exhibited together with one of his rarer subject pictures, 'Susanna and the Elders'. .
