17th century art
(Southern Europe)
17th century baroque and classical paintings of religious and secular
subjects, dominated by landscape which had developed as a distinct art
form by the 17th century.
Exhibits include:-
Classical landscapes by Claude Lorrain and Gaspard Dughet: Idealised scenes,
evoking the pastoral serenity of a lost Golden Age.
Also Biblical and mythological subjects:-
Luca Giordano; Pietro da Cortona; Carlo Dolci; Castiglione.
