Norman Agriculture The heavy plough from North Europe was preferred by the Norman lords. It was too large to use on small or square fields. This is one of the reasons why the lord's manor was farmed as large open fields divided into strips. The king, noblemen, knights, priests and craftsmen - the men who made history - were all supported by the unknown people who worked the land. What do you think the men in the background are doing?
