Georgian Animals In the late eighteenth century Thomas Coke of Holkham Hall made a huge contribution to improving livestock by improving the quality of grass grown for them to eat. He found which seed was likely to produce the richest hay and most nourishing grass. Cattle had always been useful to pull ploughs and provide meat and milk. But now there was great interest in breeding different types for different purposes. Pedigree cattle breeds as we know them today came into being.
