Aisle: passage down one or both sides of the nave

Chancel: the east end of the church containing the high altar

Chapter House: room where the monks gathered daily to discuss business affairs,discipline monks who had broken the rule and read a chapter from the Benedictine Rule.

Cloister: the central part of the monastery consisting of a courtyard surrounded by a covered corridor leading to all the main buildings.

Infirmary: a building for sick or aged monks.

Nave: the western end of the church.

Parlour: room where conversation was permitted.

Refectory: monk's dining room.

Sacristy: storage room for sacred vessels and vestments (containers and clothes).

Transepts: the north and south wings of the church.
