Reformation Henry used his squabble with the Pope over the divorce of Catherine as his excuse to break with Rome and make himself head of a Church of England. Henry remained a Catholic in what he believed but he opened the way for Protestants. The monasteries were closed and most sold and eventually destroyed. This was known as the Dissolution of the Monasteries. |
