The chambermaids used buckets like this one. They would take the chamberpot from under the bed and empty the slops(wee!) into the bucket.

There is a fitted top which slopes towards a knob with a gap under it. The slops could be poured in. it would run under the gap.

The top stopped the wee from slopping out over the sides as the chambermaid carried it down stairs.
