Blakesley Hall

bhhp.cpt (422954 bytes)

Welcome to Blakesley Hall, built, in 1590 for Richard Smalbroke, Birmingham merchant and gentleman farmer. The Hall is a timber-framed building, with a 17th century brick kitchen extension.

The house is furnished using an inventory taken in the 17th century and reflects the lifestyle of a wealthy family of the late Tudor and Stuart period of English history.

A Lottery grant has been awarded to extend the facilities of this site. Improvements will include an interpretative centre, cafe, toilets, coach parking and a refurbished classroom. Onsite security will also be improved. To enable this work to be carried out, the Hall will be closed to the public until spring 2002.

Normally open to Birmingham schools throughout the year, a wide variety of cross curricular activities and study sessions are available to Birmingham schoolchildren at all Key Stages. This includes work involving history, drama, maths and technology.

During closure, schools enquiries will be taken on 0121 303 3890
