Shaping - Introduction

Shaping can be used to accentuate or diminish the appearance of a particular part of the body. Shaping can be temporary or permanent, painful or harmless. As well as drawing attention to the body, shaping can allow a person to incorporate beautiful and interesting objects into their appearance.

Shaping can indicate a desire to produce the ideal type of male or female body. This ideal varies from culture to culture and over time. Alternatively, shaping can be a reaction against the ideal male or female body.

Certain parts of the body such as the waist are easier to shape than others. Parts such as the neck or feet take considerable time and commitment to expand or contract.
