The chief room was the Hall. This was where most people in the castle lived, ate and slept. The lord and grand visitors may have eaten in here but they would also have had a room called a solar where they could be more private. These grand folk had separate rooms for sleeping in. Other rooms included a kitchen, pantry and buttery to one side of the hall. The pantry was for serving bread, and the buttery was for serving beer. A chapel was on the west side. A brewhouse and bakehouse were essential for making ale and bread.Fishponds and a vegetable garden provided fresh food. A well supplied water.
